Women's Golf Opens Season at Mason Rudolph Championship

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Arizona Women’s Golf will officially begin its 2023-24 season at the Mason Rudolph Championship this weekend, hosted by Vanderbilt. The Wildcats return to Tennessee to open their year at the same event for a second consecutive year after finishing runner-up at the 2022 tournament with a team score of 15-under par. Arizona will tee off on Friday morning with four of the same players in the lineup from the year before.

“It’s always exciting to compete in the first tournament of the year, especially at a great event like the Mason Rudolph Championship,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “We played great on this course last year, and our young ladies are eager to get back out there again. This was a young team that made a deep run in Scottsdale last season, which set the stage for us to improve this year. This weekend will be our first chance to see our growth and development as a team.”

Three Wildcat golfers finished in the top 12 of last year’s Mason Rudolph Championship, led by Gile Bite Starkute shooting 4-under and tying for ninth place. Carolina Melgrati and Lilas Pinthier finished tied for eleventh, carding final scores of 3-under. Arizona ended last year’s tournament four strokes behind champion Mississippi State.

Arizona’s performance at the 2022 event springboarded the team to finish top three in a trio of regular season tournaments before winning the NCAA Raleigh Regional and finishing the NCAA Championships in the top 10.

This weekend will see an 18-team field take on the Vanderbilt Legends Club, including seven programs ranked in the WGCA’s preseason top 25 poll. The course will be played at a distance of 6,491 yards with a par of 72.
