Vanderbilt Women's Golf | Commodores Move Up in Franklin

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Tillie Claggett’s 6-under-par 66 on Saturday at the Mason Rudolph Championship presented by Simmons Bank propelled both herself and the Vanderbilt women’s golf team into second place positions heading into Sunday’s final round. Claggett currently sits at 8-under par after 36 holes while  as a team the Commodores are 18-under par, two strokes behind Auburn.

“I’m really proud of the determination we showed today,” said head coach Greg Allen. “It was another solid team effort with the girls making a bunch of birdies and for the most part, doing what you’re supposed to do. I’d still like to see us a little sharper on 18.”

Claggett’s bogey-free round included six birdies on the day, five on the back nine highlighted by four between hole Nos. 10-14. It is Vanderbilt’s lowest individual round at the Mason Rudolph Championship since Abbey Carlson’s 66 in 2018.

No Commodores in the lineup finished over par on Saturday. Graduate student Celina Sattelkau followed up her first round 69 with a second round 2-under-par 70, holing four birdies on the day. She is currently tied for ninth place individually. Junior Virginie Ding notched a 1-under-par 71 with five birdies as well, with freshman Ava Merrill also 1-under par. Sophomore Lynn Lim—tied for eleventh overall—carded an even-par 72.

Freshman Charlene Chung led the way for the individual Commodores on Saturday with an even par performance. Meghan Meserole and Sara Im were both 3-over par on the day, and Macie Brown was 4-over par.

On Sunday, the Commodores look to take their first team title at the Mason Rudolph Championship since 2018.

“Tomorrow is going to be a really fun day,” said Allen. “I’m excited to see how our young ladies handle the opportunity they have created.”

Vanderbilt will tee off with Auburn and Ole Miss at 9:39 a.m. Live scoring for the event can be found HERE.
