Griffin Leads Nittany Lions Through First Two Rounds of Rod Myers Invitational


Rod Myers Invitational Day One Results
 
DURHAM, N.C. – The Penn State men’s golf team completed the first two rounds of Duke’s Rod Myers Invitational Sunday at the Duke University Golf Club.
 
The Nittany Lions are in a three-way tie for seventh place in the team race at 13-over, 589. Penn State shot a 10-over, 298, in the opening round before seeing a seven-stroke improvement with a 3-over, 291, in the afternoon.
 
Jake Griffin paces the Nittany Lions as the junior is tied for 18th place at 1-over, 145. Griffin shot a 3-over, 75, in the opening round, but fired a team-low 2-under, 70, in the second round to move up the leaderboard.
 
Graduate student Patrick Sheehan follows closely behind in a tie for 22nd place at 2-over, 146.  Sheehan had Penn State’s best first round, shooting an even 72. He then recorded three-straight birdies in the final three holes of the second round to close strong at 2-over, 74.
 
Graduate student Jimmy Meyers had a nine-stroke improvement between the morning and afternoon rounds, rebounding from an 8-over, 80, with a 1-under, 71, in the second round. He sits tied for 46th at 7-over, 151.
 
Freshman Zach Smith, making his collegiate debut, is tied for 56th at 10-over, 154. Senior James Allen is currently tied for 59th at 11-over, 155.
 
The third and final round of the Rod Myers Invitational begins with 8 a.m. tee times Monday. Live scoring will continue to be available on GolfStat.
