Men's Golf Central: SEC Fall Preview

The fifth-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is back in action for its second tournament of the fall season, traveling to Birmingham, Alabama, for the SEC Fall Preview hosted by Jerry Pate.

The tournament, which is in its third year of existence, will feature all 14 SEC teams competing in 54 holes of stroke play—36 holes Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday—with match play coming on Wednesday. The top two team finishers from stroke play will face off in the final pairings of the day, while the other 12 teams will square off in an East vs. West match play format.

The event is set to be held at the par-71, 7,226-yard Birmingham Country Club—West Course. Nestled in the southwest corner of Birmingham, the club is believed to be the only course in existence to be crafted by the trio of Donald Ross, Pete Dye and Robert Trent Jones Sr.

According to Golfweek’s rankings, nine of the 14 participating teams are ranked inside the top-25, with Tennessee being the second-highest ranked team in the field.

Tennessee is coming off a team win at the inaugural Visit Knoxville Collegiate after posting a three-round 25-under total of 815. Leading the way for Tennessee was Evan Woosley-Reed, who posted a 9-under total score to finish in fourth place. Jake Hall also registered a top-five finish after shooting 7-under for the tournament.

In last year’s SEC Fall Preview, Hall guided the Vols into the match play final following his second-place stroke play finish. Tennessee then went on to defeat Vanderbilt in the finals to claim the title.
