Vanderbilt Set for SEC Match Play – Vanderbilt University Athletics – Official Athletics Website

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team will get its first look at SEC competition this week, as the No. 3-ranked Commodores are set to participate in the SEC Match Play. The three-day tournament begins Monday at the Country Club of Birmingham.

Tournament Format
Previously known as the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate between 1986-2020, the SEC Match Play features all 14 SEC teams competing in 54 holes of stroke play, 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 on Tuesday, with match play on Wednesday. The top two finishers from stroke play will square off in the final groupings of the day, while the 12 other teams will square off in an East vs. West Match Play format.

Course Information
The event will take place at the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama. It is a 7,226-yard course that plays as a par 71.

The Field
All 14 SEC teams will be at the SEC Match Play. Eight teams are currently ranked in the top 25 of the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Preseason Poll. Those teams include No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Auburn, No. 8 Florida, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 13 Alabama, No. 20 Georgia, No. 21 Mississippi State, and No. 24 Ole Miss.

Tee Times
The first two rounds of the tournament will take place Monday with the day getting underway with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The final round of stroke play will take place Tuesday with an 8 a.m. tee time. Match play begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

“I’m excited about the opportunity we have over the next ten days. It’s a great opportunity for our guys to play against the best players and teams in the country. The SEC Match Play will be a great challenge on another incredible course at the Country Club of Birmingham.

“While we were excited with how we started and competed in our first event, we also know there were some areas we can do better to be more consistent. It is up to us to become the best team we can be. That’s our focus right now and we need to be excited about that.”
