Cal Shatters Previous 54-Hole Record

SEASIDE – Closing out the Molly Collegiate Invitational Tuesday at Bayonet Golf Course, the California women’s golf team capped off its best collective performance ever, shattering yet another all-time program record with a 28-under-par 836 team score that tied Oregon for first place.

The Golden Bears bested their previous 54-hole record – set in 2008 at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic – by 10 strokes. It was Cal’s fourth program record in two days.

“It’s so special. It’s an amazing course to play and host on,” sophomore Olivia Lee said. “Since we were hosting, it was even more special to have the whole team out on the course and to celebrate after.”

Four Bears finished the tournament in the top 20 individually, led by Lee, Adora Liu and Constance Fouillet who all tied for seventh place at 7-under 209. Lee (69-73-67) had the best day of any Bear, moving up 10 spots after carding a 5-under 67 in round three that was one stroke shy of the program’s individual record.

“We went into the tournament with a smart mindset to not push anything, and after the first round, it was super encouraging for all of us,” Lee said. “We all went into the final day with good vibes and a plan. Putting was a big part of our practice after the last tournament and I feel like we all had pretty good pace.”

Fellow sophomore Liu (69-70-70) tied Lee for the most birdies on the team with six on the day. She is the first Bear this season to go under par in every round. Fouillet (66-72-71) continued her outstanding start to the year by finishing with the top score on the team for the second straight time.

Junior Kaylyn Noh was Cal’s fourth representative in the top 20, carding a 1-under 215 (67-71-77). Rounding out the Bears’ main lineup, senior Rina Tatematsu went under par for the second straight day, ending the competition in a tie for 29th place at 2-over 218 (71-76-71).

The Bears’ four individual competitors were led by senior Cristina Ochoa (71-72-75), who also finished in a tie for 29th place.

“Shout out to our associate head coach, Beverly Terry, for coaching and organizing the event, and to our interim assistant coach Katie Mitchell, who flew all the way here,” Lee concluded. “They were both…
