Spartans Finish Play at the Windon Memorial


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team shot a 2-over par 286 in the final round and finished in 15th place at the Windon Memorial, held at Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield, Ill.

The Spartans finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 4-over par 856 (287-283-286).

Purdue topped the 15-team field at 38-under par 814, four shots ahead of second place East Tennessee State (34-under par 818). Indiana placed third (29-under par 823), with South Florida fourth (27-under par 825) and North Florida fifth (23-under par 829).

Final Results

Senior Bradley Smithson and freshman Lorenzo Pinili led the Spartans, tying for 45th place with scores of even-par 213. Smithson closed with a team-best 2-under par 69 for his 213 (75-69-69). Pinili had a 3-over par 74 in the final round (69-70-74).

Junior Ashton McCulloch finished in 73rd place at 5-over par 218 (72-72-74), while senior August Meekhof and junior Satchel Pierce were one shot back, tied for 74th place at 6-over par 219. Meekhof had a final round 2-over par 73 for his 219 (71-75-73), while Pierce shot a 1-under par 70 (77-72-70).

Michigan State is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 1 and Monday, Oct. 2, playing in the Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course, in South Bend, Ind.
