Men's Golf Central: Fighting Irish Classic


SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The fifth-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is set to compete in its third tournament of the fall, taking part in the Fighting Irish Classic in South Bend, Indiana, on Sunday and Monday.

The tournament consists of three total rounds—36 holes of play on Sunday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.

The event is set to be played at the par-70, 7,023-yard Warren Golf Course. The Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore designed course is ranked as the 10th-best golf course in the state of Indiana by Golf Digest.

According to Golfweek’s collegiate rankings, Tennessee is the highest ranked team in the 14-team field at No. 5.

The Vols are coming off a fifth-place team finish at the SEC Fall Preview after shooting 23-under overall. Sophomores Caleb Surratt and Evan Woosley-Reed led the way for UT individually after shooting 7-under and tying for 11th place.

This marks the first time under head coach Brennan Webb that Tennessee will compete at Warren Golf Course. Last time the Vols competed in Indiana, they took home a team title at the Purdue Fall Invitational during the 2022-23 season.

THE VOLS’ LINEUP

Caleb Surratt

The Indian Trail, North Carolina, native is coming off his ninth career top-20 finish after placing tied for 11th and shooting a 7-under total at the SEC Fall Preview. Surratt notched all three rounds of par or better and went bogey-free through his first 39 holes of the tournament while also registering eight birdies and an eagle.

Evan Woosley-Reed

Woosley-Reed is coming off consecutive top-15 finishes at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate and SEC Fall Preview. His 7-under performance at the SEC Fall Preview included three rounds in the 60s with 11 total birdies.

Jake Hall

The redshirt senior posted back-to-back top 20 finishes in the first two tournaments of the fall season. Hall shot 4-under at the SEC Fall Preview after shooting below-par in every round to finish tied for 20th. The Knoxville native has shot par or better in all six rounds this season.

Bryce Lewis

Lewis shot even-par through three rounds at the SEC Fall Preview, including a 4-under 67 in round two. The redshirt senior is the program-leader in career rounds of par or better with 71.

Lance Simpson

Simpson also finished at even-par and tied for 34th at the SEC Fall Preview after logging a round one 71 and round three 70.

Bruce Murphy

Murphy competed as an individual at the Papago Individual, shooting 2-under overall and tying for fourth place….
