Alabama Opens October at the Hamptons Intercollegiate


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men’s golf team will get back to action this week when it travels to East Hampton, N.Y., to compete at the Hamptons Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole event will take place Monday (36 holes) and Tuesday (18 holes) at the par 72 6,665-yard Maidstone Club course.

The Lineup

  • Four of the Crimson Tide’s starting five will be the same as last week’s SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate, consisting of Nick Dunlap, Canon Claycomb, Thomas Ponder and Jonathan Griz
  • Two Alabama golfers will make their debut at this week’s event as Auburn transfer Austin Coggin earned the starting nod in the fifth spot while freshman Luke Coyle will compete as an individual
  • Dunlap headlines the squad fresh off his second career individual medalist honor and first victory of the season, after carding a 15-under par 198
  • The reigning U.S. Amateur champion leads the team with a 67.20 stroke average and -3.40 average vs. par while all five of his rounds this season have been par or better including three rounds in the 60s
  • In all, three additional UA golfers boast a per-round average of 72.00 or better including Claycomb (70.20), Griz (71.67) and Ponder (72.00)

Tournament Preview

  • In addition to No. 13 Alabama, Virginia (T-No. 13), Ohio State (No. 26) and UCLA (No. 37) come into the tournament ranked among the top-40 teams in the nation, according to the Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Poll
  • Tournament host Loyola Maryland, Georgetown, Harvard, Howard, Penn, Princeton and Yale make up the rest of the 11-team field
  • The Crimson Tide will tee off on Hole No. 1 at 7:35 a.m. ET (6:35 a.m. CT) and be paired alongside Princeton and Loyola Maryland throughout Monday’s 36 holes of play
