The team attacked the par 5’s, ranking tied for first through 36 holes shooting 9-under on the par 5’s for the tournament while being one of three teams with two eagles on the day heading into the final round.
Coming off a victory at the Papago Invitational. Gabe Salvanera sits inside the top-10 at 3-under 137 (71-67) after firing a 4-under 66 in the second round. He carded an eagle and three birdies in his first 11 holes and steaded through his round to finish in red figures. In his opening round he shot 1-over (71) with two birdies managed to shoot even-par in his final six holes.
Luke Potter is sitting in a tie for ninth alongside Salvanera at 3-under, 137 (67-70) after the sophomore shot an opening round 3-under, 67 with six birdies. He finished his round holing back-to-back birdies finish 3-under through 18 holes, then in his second round he shot an even-par, 70 with one birdie and 16 pars to remain in the top-10. Ryggs Johnston is tied alongside Potter and Salvanera at 3-under, 137 (70-67) after firing a 3-under, 67 in his second round that included four birdies in an eight hole span. In his opening round he fought back to even-par with three straight birdies on holes 16,17 and 18 to finish with an even par, 70.
Preston Summerhays is tied for 14th after firing an opening round 4-under (66) in which he achieved his third eagle of the season. During the first round he went 5-under in a four hole stretch. In his second round he carded a 2-over, 72 but remains in red figures at 2-under, (138) for the tournament. The Spainard Josele Ballester shot a 1-under 69 in the first round and finished his second round with five straight pars to sit at 2-over (69-73) for the tournament in a tie for 34th.
The Sun Devils will look to make a run for the top spot in their final round at Shady Oaks Country Club tomorrow at 9:30 a.m MST. Live scoring can be found here.
