Women's Golf Heads to Virginia Beach for 2023 Evie Odom Invitational


VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Penn State women’s golf team resumes competition after a few weeks off as they hit the road for the Evie Odom Invitational hosted by Old Dominion University at the Princess Anne Country Club this week.

The tournament will feature three single round days beginning Friday morning with split tee times starting at 8:30 a.m.

The Nittany Lions will tee off the tenth hole from 8:40 a.m. through 9:20 a.m. and be paired with Chattanooga and North Florida.

MAT IS BACK

  • After missing the first two events of the fall with an injury, graduate student Mathilde Delavallade returns to the lineup this weekend.
  • Delavallade set a single season scoring record for the Nittany Lions last season finishing the year with a 72.60 stroke average over 35 rounds of competition. The Royan, France native was also selected as an individual to compete in the NCAA Athens Regional. Delavallade used a Penn State 18-hole scoring record of 7-under, 64, to finish runner-up at the 2022 Cougar Classic and had five top-10 finishes throughout the year.
  • Delavallade has 10 career to-10 finishes with five being top-5 finishes.

THE TEAM

  • Outside of the return of Delavallade back to the lineup, Penn State’s core remains the same with junior’s Drew Nienhaus, Michelle Cox and Jami Morris joining graduate transfer Carlota Garcia to round out the starting five.
  • Cox leads the team through two events this fall with a 72.50 stroke average with Nienhaus right behind at 73.00.

COURSE & TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW

  • The par-70 layout spans 5,824 yards and features four par-5s along with six challenging par-3s.
  • Opening in 2008, the first-rate golf course winds through stands of stately pines and live oaks and along narrow waterways.
  • This year will mark the fifth time the ODU women’s golf program has hosted a collegiate tournament at the Princess Anne Country Club and this will be the third year under the name Evie Odom Invitational.  
  • Tournament namesake Evie Odom made the largest contribution to a women’s sport in the history of ODU Athletics. Her support of ODU women’s golf and specifically this tournament gives the team a tremendous boost in their ability to compete nationally.
  • College of Charleston won last year’s tournament with a three-over par 843, Minnesota was the runner up…
