Women’s Golf Continues Action at Jackson T. Stephens Cup


DALLAS, Texas – For the second straight season, the Duke women’s golf program will compete in the Jackson T. Stephens Cup against the top teams in the nation.  The event will be contested at the Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas, Oct. 9-11 and will be aired live on the Golf Channel.  

All teams will play 54 holes of stroke play and then the top four squads advance to match play to close the event.  On Monday, Oct. 9, the teams will play 36 holes of stroke play followed by 18 holes on Oct. 10.  The match play portion will be contested on Oct. 11.  

The women’s field includes Arkansas, Duke, South Carolina, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M and Wake Forest.  Seven men’s programs will also compete as well.  

In addition to the 14 schools competing for team titles, individual men and women collegiate players representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and the U.S. Service Academies will compete in the stroke play portion of the tournament.

The Jackson T. Stephens Cup is named in memory of the late Augusta National Chairman, Jackson T. Stephens.  

For the third straight event, Duke will field a lineup of senior Phoebe Brinker, senior Anne Chen, graduate student Emma McMyler, sophomore Andie Smith and freshman Katie Li.  

The Blue Devils are coming off an impressive showing at the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Golf, Ill., last week.  Duke carded a 54-hole score of 21-under, 843, to place tied for fourth.  The 21-under ledger was the third-lowest 54-hole score in relation to par on a par-72 course in Blue Devil history.  Three Duke golfers finished in the top-20 with McMyler (T4, 8-under), Smith (T14, 5-under) and Brinker (T20, 4-under).  

Last year, Duke defeated South Carolina, 3-2, in match play to finish third in the event, after carding an 11-under, 853, in stroke play.   

Fans will be able to follow the action live on the Golf Channel.  On Monday, the action will get going at 4:30 p.m., with College Central followed by coverage from 5-8 p.m.  A replay of the first round will air from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.  On Tuesday, College Central will open at 3:30 p.m., and then coverage from 4-7 p.m.  Replays will air from 8:30-11 p.m., and 12:30-3:30 a.m.  Wednesday’s match play coverage will start at 3:30 p.m., with College Central and then coverage from 4-7 p.m.  A replay of the…
