Filler Makes History, Gators Own 13 Stroke Lead at Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Florida women’s team and Maisie Filler led the field at the Tar Invitational after 36-holes on Monday.

The Gators shot rounds of 280 (Rd. 1) and 282 (Rd. 2) for a score of 14-under and lead the field by 13 strokes with Auburn (-1) in second as the only other team shooting under par.

Filler started the day with a career-low and bogey-free 64 (-8), which set the second-lowest round in program history. She previously passed her previous record of 65 that she shot twice in her career and most recent at last year’s Gators Invitational. She was two strokes away from tying all-time mark of 62 set by Sierra Brooks in 2018.

In Filler’s opening round she went eagle-birdie-birdie-birdie in a four hole stretch and is the solo leader by three strokes and looks to secure her first collegiate win. After she went +3 on her second front nine, she bounced back with a bogey-free 5-under on the back with a stretch of six birdies across seven holes for a round two of 2-under 70. The round marked her team-leading fifth under par as Filler sits 10-under overall.

The rest of the lineup is all in the top-25 with Annabell Fuller tied for 9th and the other Gator that is under par at -1. She had rounds of 72-71 with the latter only carding one bogey.

Freshman Sophie Stevens continues her strong debut as she is tied for 14th. She cut seven strokes from round one to two with a 4-under 68.

The next two Gators in the lineup feature Inès Archer and Jackie Lucena tied for 19th. Lucena fired a first round of 1-under 70.

Competing as individual Paul Francisco is in T68.

Florida looks to win its second straight tournament and will tee off tomorrow at 9 a.m. ET.
