Women’s Golf Caps Off First Day of Illini Women’s Invitational in Top Five


MEDINAH, Ill. – After a full day on Monday that featured 36 holes of golf, the Ole Miss women’s golf team sits in fourth place following two rounds of play at the Illini Women’s Invitational.
 
The Rebels sit at 3-under par following a first round score of 284 (-4) and a second round score of 289 (+1) at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois. Ole Miss is eleven shots back of the tournament leader heading into Tuesday’s final round. 
 
Sophie Linder led the charge for the Rebels with a two-round score of 142 (-2) and is currently tied for 11th  place. In each of the two rounds, the freshman shot 1-under (71) after making six birdies and 26 pars while also leading the field in par-4 scoring (-2).
 
The SEC Player of the Week in Caitlyn Macnab wasn’t far behind after shooting a score of 143 (-1) to end the opening day of play tied for 17th. The Johannesburg, South Africa, native has shot under par in six of her eight rounds this season after tallying a 70 (-2) score in the opening round and a 73 (+1) score in the next. She also made the first eagle of the year for the Rebels in round two.
 
Also sitting tied for 17th on the individual leaderboard is Natacha Host Husted with a two-round total of 142 (-2). The junior fired home four birdies in the first round to go 1-under (71) before posting an even score of 72.   
 
Justine Fournand will enter day two tied for 47th following rounds of 72 (E) and 76 (+4). The senior went perfect in her first nine holes of the day, shooting all pars to kick start her tournament play on the right foot.
 
Andrea Lignell struggled in her first round shooting a score of 82 (+10), but the senior bounced back with a round two 73 (+1) score. She currently sits tied for 71st leading into the final day.
 
Competing individually for Ole Miss was Molly Hardwick who posted a two-round score of 154 (+10). In the sophomore’s first round of the season, she shot a score of 79 (+7) before tying her career-low round score of 75 (+3). The Nashville, Tennessee, native sits individually tied for 69th overall.
 
The Rebels are set to tee off at 9 a.m. CT for the final round of play in Medinah.
