Freshmen Emily Mathews and Valentine Delon paced the Hokies, both checking in top 25 performances. Mathews tied for 20th at 4-over 220 (76-73-71) and Delon tied for 24th at 5-over 221 (75-73-73).
The Hokies tied for second with a pair of eagles in the tournament, thanks to Mathews and graduate student Becca DiNunzio. Tech also came in fifth for par-5 scoring, due in large part to sophomore Morgan Ketchum’s 3-under performance on those holes.
As a team, the Hokies placed eighth at 17-over 881 (303-287-291). Florida captured its second straight title of the season in commanding fashion, scoring a 16-under 848 (280-282-286). Auburn came in second with an 8-under 856 (291-284-281).
Florida’s Maisie Filler came away with the win behind her 13-under 203 (64-70-69). Auburn’s Casey Weidenfeld used a 7-under 65 on the final day to overtake Michigan’s Monet Chun for second place at 10-under 206.
The Hokies’ next opportunity will be at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. The three-day tournament, hosted by UNC Wilmington, is Oct. 27-29 at Country Club of Landfall.
