Sy Finishes Tied for Third at Medinah

MEDINAH, Ill. – The Illinois women’s golf team closed out the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah with a season-low team round of 1-under (287) to finish in 11th place at 14-over (878) at Medinah Country Club.

Isabel Sy recorded a tied-for-third finish at 8-under (208), the best of her career, after shooting a final-round 68 (-4). It is the first time in the San Gabriel, Calif., native’s career that she recorded consecutive Top 5 finishes. Sy tallied five birdies on the day, giving her 15 total for the tournament, which was second-most among the field. The senior tied for the second-lowest par 3 scoring average (2.83, -2) and also tied for the fourth-lowest par 4 scoring average (3.97, -1). 

Erica Lee moved up six spots on the leaderboard after firing an even-par round of 72 and finished tied for 55th. Lee carded three birdies during the third round and also matched Sy in par 3 scoring average (2.83, -2) for the tournament.

Anna Ritter placed tied for 66th after her final round of 77 (+5) and had the lowest par 5 scoring average on the team during the event at 4.50 (-6).

Sophia Sulkar shot a career-low 1-under 71 to also finish tied for 66th and Lexanne Halama posted a third-round total of 76 (+4) to place tied for 72nd. Sulkar’s 38 pars over the two days led the Illini and also ranked tied for sixth-most among the field.

LSU took home the team title at 27-under (837) and the Tigers’ Latanna Stone claimed individual honors at 9-under (207).

The Fighting Illini will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 27, as they compete at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., played at the Country Club of Landfall.
