Men's Golf Earns 9th-Place Finish at Tenn. Intercollegiate


Jonesborough, TN— The Rutgers men’s golf team wrapped up their participation in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate this past weekend, securing a tie for ninth-place.  This marked the team’s fourth consecutive tournament with a top-10 finish.  
 
Eight of the fifteen teams in the field this past week are ranked in Golfstat’s top 100.  Rutgers would go into the tournament ranked as the 72nd best team in the country.  
 
The team shot a nine-over, 871 (291-290-290) over the three-day tournament hosted by East Tennessee State. 
 
Graduate student Luke Wells led the way, finishing in a tie for 21th at 216 (73-70-73). His best round of the weekend was on round two in which he picked up four birdies.  
 
Rhett Sellers secured his second top-30 finish of the season. The senior would end the event in a tie for 27th place finishing one over with a score of 217 (75-69-73). Throughout the event, Sellers would make six birdies.
 
Xavier Marcoux would shoot three-over with a final score of 219 (70-77-72) and finish in a tie for 36th place.  
 
Weston Jones placed in a tie for 59th place with a final score six-over par, 222 (75-75-72). On Tuesday, he delivered his best performance, sinking four birdies in the final round.  
 
In his first start of the season for the Scarlet Knights, sophomore Logan Paczewski shot a 13-over par, 229 (73-76-80).  Paczewski demonstrated great poise as he would sink nine birdies over his first tournament. 
 
Rutgers accumulated a total of 44 birdies over the three-day event. Luke Wells notably tied for 5th place in individual birdies with 12.  
 
Tournament host, East Tennessee State won the event shooting -27, 837 (283-280-274) over three days.  
 
Mats Ege would win the individual tournament with a score of -16, 200 (62-70-68).
 
The Scarlet Knights will now head to Vero Beach, Florida for the Quail Valley Collegiate hosted by Michigan State on October 15-16.
