Morales Leads Bruins on Day One in Georgia

ALPHARRETA, Ga. – Junior Omar Morales on the UCLA men’s golf team is one shot back for a tie of the lead after a 4-under 68 in round one of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational on Friday.

The Bruins are in a three-way tie for 12th out of 15 teams at even par 288. No. 11 East Tennessee State owns a three-stroke lead on the field at 13-under.

Morales is in a four-way tie for third in a crowded leaderboard. The Puebla, Mexico native recorded six birdies in round one and was bogey free after his sixth hole. Morales is coming off his first top-5 finish of the season at the Hamptons Intercollegiate last week.

Reigning Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Week Luke Powell is tied for 37th following an even par 72. A double bogey on the par 3 sixth dropped Powell to 1-over, but the freshman immediately bounced back with a birdie on hole seven and parred his next seven holes.

Graduate Mason Greene joins Powell in a tie for 37th. He parred 14 holes and birdied twice.

Sophomore Kyle An rounded out UCLA’s counting scores on day one with 4-over 76 to put him 71st heading into round two tomorrow. Follow along at this GolfStat live scoring link.
