Chip Shots: Lexanne Halama on the Fall Season

Happy fall, Illini Nation!

This is junior Lexanne Halama to take you behind the scenes of the past three weeks, which have gone by far too quickly!

We have enjoyed making many fun new memories at the events, starting with the Schooner Fall Classic hosted by the University of Oklahoma. The team had the opportunity to visit the OK Kids Korral, which is part of the Toby Keith Foundation, that provides lodging for families whose children are battling cancer. It was a great experience to learn more about the program, interact with the kids, and even enjoy a dinner cooked by the staff.

We then traveled up to Chicagoland for Northwestern’s event, the Windy City Invitational. The weather was warm, and Glen View Club was beautiful. With healthy rough and quick greens, we enjoyed the challenge the course offered and gained much valuable preparation before heading into our next event: the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah.

Being able to host our home event at Medinah is always an incredible opportunity that we are very grateful for. We cannot thank all of the people who supported, volunteered, and organized the event to ensure it was a resounding success. With sunny skies and pure course conditions, Medinah was a fantastic playing experience. We are so happy for our senior Isabel Sy for her top 3 finish with scores of 70, 70, 68 to make her last Illini Women’s Invitational a memorable one indeed with her career best finish to date. We are also excited for sophomore Sophia Sulkar and her new career low tournament round of 71 (-1) in the final round.

Again, our hearts are filled with gratitude for all of the people who made the event possible. Without each of you, we would not be where we are now nor have these amazing opportunities to grow our games. Your consistent support and encouragement are what drive us to keep working hard as we prepare not only to finish the fall season at UNC-Wilmington’s event at Landfall but for the spring season to come.

Until next time, happy golfing!
