Women’s Golf Closes Fall Season at The Landfall Tradition


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team closes out the first half of the 2023-24 season this week, playing in The Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall’s Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C.

The three-day event tees off on Friday, Oct. 27 at 8:30 a.m. with 18 holes.  The tournament continues on Saturday, Oct. 28 and concludes on Sunday, Oct. 29 with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start. The Landfall Tradition will be played on the par-72, 6,194-yard rolling layout along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway near Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina.

THE LANDFALL TRADITION FIELD

In addition to Michigan State, the field includes host UNC-Wilmington, Alabama, Arizona, Clemson, UCF, Duke, East Carolina, Furman, Illinois, Maryland, NC State, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue, SMU, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

LAST TIME OUT

Michigan State finished in fourth place in a field of 14 teams at the Tar Heel Invitational on October 10 at the Governors Club in North Carolina. The Spartans shot a 7-over par 871 (294-284-293). MSU had three players among the top-20 overall, with junior Brooke Biermann tied for 12th place at even-par 216 (76-69-71), classmate Katie Lu tied for 15th place at 1-over par 217(74-72-71) and senior Leila Raines tied for 17th place at 2-over par 218 (70-75-73).

 

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

The Spartans are looking to close out the Fall season with another strong finish as the team has finished among the top-five in the last three events.  MSU has posted a runner-up finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational and finished in third place at the Glass City Invitational before its fourth-place showing at the Tar Heel Invitational. Junior Katie Lu, who has two top-5 finishes, leads the team with a 70.83 scoring average. Junior Brooke Biermann is second on the team at 73.00 and senior Leila Raines carries a 73.16 average.
