Men's Golf Central: Cypress Point Classic

MONTEREY, Calif. – The sixth-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is back in action for its fifth and final tournament of the fall Monday, traveling to the west coast for the Cypress Point Classic.

The tournament features eight six-man teams who are set to compete in a Ryder Cup style tournament, with foursomes and four ball matches play on Monday, following by singles play on Tuesday.

The eight teams competing will be pre-seeded No. 1 through No. 8 in order by ranking prior to the event. The first seed will play the last seed in the first round of bracketed play. Winners will advance in the bracket, while losers will move into a consolation bracket.

One point per match will be awarded for a win while half a point will be awarded for any ties. The total number of “holes won” over the 18-hole match will settle overall team ties.

The contest is set to take place at Cypress Point Golf Course, located on the Monterey Peninsula. The Alister MacKenzie-designed course is consistently rated as one of the top three golf courses ever created by all major publications. The course’s natural architecture provides a challenging yet aesthetically pleasing layout.

According to Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches’ Poll rankings, six of the eight participating teams are ranked inside the top 20, with Tennessee ranking fourth in the field at No. 6.

Throughout four fall tournaments, Tennessee has won two team titles: the Visit Knoxville Collegiate and Fighting Irish Classic.

This marks the first time under head coach Brennan Webb that the Vols will compete at Cypress Point.
