Swedick and Whitehead Set to Join Cavalier Program

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s golf coach Ria Scott announced today (Nov. 11) a two-player signing class to join the Cavalier program in the fall of 2024. The latest additions to the Virginia program are Kennedy Swedick (Albany, N.Y.) and Maggie Whitehead (Durham, England).

“Kennedy and Maggie add some great experience and depth to our roster,” Scott said. “Their desire for excellence in academics, athletics and well-rounded personal experiences lined up so clearly with our program values. We could not be prouder to officially make them Virginia Cavaliers.”

Swedick is currently ranked No. 16 in the class according to Junior Golf Scoreboard. She is a 2023 AJGA Rolex Scholastic Junior All-America selection.

This fall, Swedick won the AJGA’s Golf Performance Center Junior, was fifth at 2023 AJGA Girls Invitational and placed 15th in AJGA Invitational presented by PING. She tied for ninth at the 2023 U.S. Girls Junior Championship and was the medalist at the 96th Women’s Western Junior Championship.

Swedick attends the Albany Academy for Girls where she was the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s 2022 and 2023 high school state champion, helping her team to the team titles as well. She also won the New York State 2022 amateur championship. She is a three-time Albany Times Union prep golfer of the year for that region. Her high school team has won four consecutive Section 2 team titles.

“On top of being a phenomenal student, Kennedy is athletic, dynamic and is very comfortable going low,” Scott said. “When Kennedy’s confidence matches up with her skills, she has shown she can win and compete with anyone.  Kennedy works extremely hard and is poised and ready to make an impact at UVA.”

Whitehead is currently ranked No. 75 in the European Golf Rankings, and is 37th in the European Under-18 rankings. She put together four top-20 finishes this season. She placed ninth at the R&A Girls Amateur Championship and the English Girls’ Open Amateur. She was 11th at the Annika Invitational Europe and 20th at the Spanish International Ladies Amateur.

This year she also participated in the R&A Girls’ & Boys’ Home International and the European Girls’ Team Championship. In 2022, she was ninth at the R&A Girls Amateur Championship and seventh at the European Young Masters.
