Seven Dores Set to Play in January Tournaments – Vanderbilt University Athletics – Official Athletics Website

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A total of seven Vanderbilt men’s golfers are set to participate in amateur tournaments in January to begin their 2024 calendar year.

Sophomore Ben Loomis will get the year started for the Commodores on Jan. 4-7, as he will play in the 2024 New Year’s Invitational in St. Petersburg, Florida. Meanwhile, graduate student Matthew Riedel, juniors Gordon Sargent and Jackson Van Paris, and sophomore Wells Williams will participate in the 2024 Jones Cup Invitational from Jan. 5-7 in Sea Island, Georgia. Graduate student William Moll and senior Cole Sherwood will head to Melbourne, Australia to play in the 2024 Australian Master of the Amateur Championship on Jan. 8-11.

New Year’s Invitational – Ben Loomis  (Jan. 4-7)
Loomis will play in the New Year’s Invitational on Jan. 4-7 at the St. Petersburg Country Club in St. Petersburg, Florida. It is a 54-hole individual stroke-play tournament that features one 18-hole round per day, with play beginning this Thursday. The New Year’s Invitational has been played at St Petersburg Country Club every year since 1927. Its original format was match play, changing to stroke play in 1956. The New Year’s Invitational has enjoyed the participation of outstanding players from around the world. Vanderbilt alum and former FedEx Champion Brandt Snedeker won the 2004 New Year’s Invitational.

Jones Cup Invitational – Matthew Riedel, Gordon Sargent, Jackson Van Paris, Wells Williams (Jan. 5-7)
Vanderbilt will have four golfers play in the 2024 Jones Cup Invitational on Jan. 5-7 at the Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Georgia. Riedel, Sargent, Van Paris, and Williams are set to play in the 54-hole individual stroke-play event.

The Jones Cup Invitational begins Friday with an 18-hole round that features an 8 a.m. CT shotgun start. Fans can click the link here to follow the 2024 Jones Cup Invitational leaderboard. First contested in 2001 at Ocean Forest Golf Club, the Jones Cup Invitational brings together many of the finest amateurs from the United States and abroad. While the golf course proves to be a great venue for this unique event, the Jones Cup’s success and popularity can be attributed to the strength of the players who comprise its field.
