CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – A strong start to the 2024 season rolls on for the Illini in the pros who are teeing up stateside in Phoenix and Las Vegas, as well as internationally in Columbia and Qatar.

PGA TOUR

Thomas Detry leads a trio of Illinois alumni into action at the WM Phoenix Open this week, joining Nick Hardy and Adrien Dumont de Chassart in the field at TPC Scottsdale.

Detry is coming off a T4 finish at the weather-shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am where he held the solo lead after opening with a career-best 63 in Round 1, and shared the top spot through 36 holes before falling three shots back on Saturday as eventual champion Wyndham Clark carded a 60 in Round 3 to surge into the lead. Worsening weather conditions, including heavy rain fall and winds up to 60 mph, forced the cancellation of Round 4 on Sunday, ending Detry’s bid after 54 holes.

The T4 finish is Detry’s best on the PGA TOUR since a runner-up at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in October 2022. Detry is currently 18th in the FedEx Cup rankings and has climbed to a career-high position of 65th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Hardy made his fourth straight cut to open 2024 at Pebble Beach and finished tied for 47th after shooting rounds of 71-73-67. He is set to make his second appearance at the WM Phoenix Open after finishing T42 in the 2021 event – in which fellow Illini great Steve Stricker tied for fourth.

Dumont de Chassart will tee off in the fourth event of his rookie campaign. He and Detry will both play in the WM Phoenix Open for the first times in their careers.

DP WORLD TOUR

Coming off of a tie for 48th at the Bahrain Championship last week, Matthis Besard is in action starting Thursday at the DP World Tour’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters at Doha Golf Club in Doha, Qatar.

Besard is in search of his third straight made cut since closing January with a T13 finish at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.

KORN FERRY TOUR

Brian Campbell travels from Panama to Columbia to compete this week at the Astara Golf Championship at the Country Club of Bogota.

Campbell is currently 37th on the Korn Ferry Tour points list after making three straight cuts to open his season with a T44 at the…
