Illini Set to Open Spring Slate at Nexus Collegiate in The Bahamas


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois women’s golf is set to open up the spring season at the Nexus Collegiate, a three-day tournament played at Albany Golf Club in New Providence, The Bahamas, on Monday, Feb. 12 through Wednesday, Feb. 14.

THE SETTING

The Nexus Collegiate is held at the Albany Golf Club, hosted by Texas Tech. The course was designed by former world No. 1 and four-time major champion Ernie Els, and officially opened in 2010. The course will be set up for a par 72 and will play 6,544 yards long.  

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

There will be 11 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament. Monday and Tuesday will have tee times beginning at 6:45 a.m. CT, while Wednesday will feature a shotgun start at 7:00 a.m. CT.

THE FIELD

Along with the Illini, the 11-team field for the Nexus Collegiate will include Boston College, Houston, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Texas, Texas Tech, Tulsa and UTSA.

ILLINI AT THE NEXUS COLLEGIATE

This will be the first time that Illinois has competed in the Nexus Collegiate. This will be the first time the Orange and Blue have competed outside of the contiguous United States since March 22, 2016, when they traveled to Oahu, Hawaii, to play in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.

Live scoring for the Nexus Collegiate will be available on Golfstat.com. A recap and results will be posted on FightingIllini.com following each day of play.

UP NEXT

The Illini will return to action on Feb. 26, where they begin play at the Chevron Collegiate at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
