#6 Vols Register Third-Place Finish at Puerto Rico Classic to Open Spring Slate


RIO MAR, Puerto Rico – The sixth-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team posted a third-place finish in its first spring tournament at the Puerto Rico Classic.

The Vols shot 8-under in round three to finish the tournament at 38-under overall. The 54-hole team score marks the fifth-best in program history.

Tennessee was led by sophomore Evan Woosley-Reed, who finished the tournament at 12-under overall and tied for eighth place in the 90-man field. Woosley-Reed’s total score for the tournament marks his career-best 54-hole score in relation to par.

The Shelbyville, Tennessee, native shot each round in the 60s, played par fours at 5-under and notched 19 birdies during the tournament.

Bryce Lewis was Tennessee’s second-best finisher at the Puerto Rico Classic. The redshirt senior shot 9-under overall after firing three consecutive under-par rounds in Puerto Rico. Lewis finished the tournament tied for 16th and now has 25 career top-25 finishes. 

Redshirt sophomore Lance Simpson secured his second top-25 finish of the season after shooting 8-under overall and tying for 21st. Simpson shot below-par in each round, including a second-round 68.

Laurent Desmarchais also tied for 21st after shooting 8-under for the event. The junior shot par or better in all three rounds and tied his second-best career 54-hole finish.

Finishing one stroke outside the top 25 was Jake Hall, who shot 7-under overall. Hall fired a pair of 69s in the first two rounds and capped off the tournament with a round-three 71.

Josh Hill shot 3-under throughout three rounds to tie for 49th. Hill’s best round came on Sunday when he shot a 68.

The Vols return to action at the Cabo Collegiate in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on March 3.
