NEW PROVIDENCE, Bahamas – The Illinois women’s golf team ended the second round of the Nexus Collegiate in sixth place after carding a team total of 301 (+13).
Isabel Sy will take a three-stroke lead into tomorrow’s final round after posting a 3-under 69 on the day. Sy started her day 1-under on the front before going 2-under on the back to close out her round. The senior tallied six birdies along the way, giving her nine total through 36 holes of play. Sy currently leads the field in both par 4 (3.88, -2) and par 5 (4.30, -7) scoring. The San Gabriel, Calif., native is seeking the first tournament win of her career while also poised to record her fourth-straight Top 5 finish of the season.
Yurang Li is tied for 14th after her second round of 78 (+6). Li bounced back front a front nine 41 (+5) to post a 37 (+1) on the back, picking up three birdies total. The freshman, competing in the first tournament of her career, also has collected nine birdies through two rounds, which is tied for fourth-most among the field.
Anna Ritter is tied for 44th after her round of 79 (+7), while Lexanne Halama and Erica Lee are both tied for 55th after rounds of 80 (+8) and 75 (+3), respectively.
Sophia Sulkar, competing individually, is tied for 64th after a second round 83 (+11).
Kentucky leads all teams at 3-over (579), with the Wildcats’ Laney Frye trailing Sy by three strokes for the tournament lead.
The Fighting Illini will be back in action for tomorrow’s final round with a shotgun start at 7:00 a.m. CT.
