Filler Leads Through Round One at Moon Golf Invitational


MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida women’s golfer Maisie Filler continued her dominant season with an opening round of 66 (-6) to own the individual lead at the Moon Golf Invitational on Saturday. The Gators are tied for 9th. 

The tournament was originally scheduled to tee off Sunday, but was moved up a day due to weather in the area. The schedule for the remainder of the event will go back to the original format with round two on Monday and round three on Tuesday. Pairings for the next round will be released tomorrow. Filler recorded her team-leading fifth round in the 60s this season and ninth overall. She only carded one bogey on the day, which came on her final hole of the round. The No. 2 ranked player in the country, had a stretch of four birdies in five holes. Filler’s seven birdies leads the field. 

Florida shot a team round of 291 (+3) and is tied for 9th with Northwestern. Auburn is the team leader behind an opening round of 282 (-6). 

Battling back to a solid round of even par 70 was Paula Francisco. The freshman was 3-over through nine holes and then found her stride going bogey-free with birdies on holes 10, 12 and 15. She is tied for 22nd.

The final two counting rounds came from Jackie Lucena (76) and Sophie Stevens (77), they sit T64 and T77. Rounding out the lineup is Inès Archer at T80.
