Men's Golf Opens Spring at The Prestige


LA QUINTA, Calif. – The Duke men’s golf team begins its spring schedule at The Prestige, held across the span of three days, Feb. 19-21, on the Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST. The 24-team field contains five top-25 teams, including the Blue Devils, who came in at No. 25 nationally in the latest ranking update from Scoreboard, powered by Clippd.

Duke is joined by No. 5 Washington, No. 19 Texas Tech, No. 22 Oregon and No. 24 Chattanooga as the top-25 teams in the event. Alongside Duke’s five-player lineup in the team event, the Blue Devils also have four individuals competing in the individual tournament, held on the North Course at The Golf Club at Terra Lago.

The Greg Norman Course at PGA West plays to a par of 71 and at a length of 7,185 yards. Duke starts a lineup of Luke Sample, Bryan Kim, Kelly Chinn, Ethan Evans and Daniel Choi at PGA WEST, while Jimmy Zheng, Ian Siebers, William Love and Daniel Uranga compete as individuals at Terra Lago.

Each day of competition consists of 18 holes of play. Duke is slated to play alongside Washington and Chattanooga in the first two rounds, beginning in the morning wave off of No. 1 for the first round. Choi is the first Blue Devil to tee off, at 9:45 a.m., ET. The pairings remain the same in the second round, but Duke begins its second round in the afternoon wave, starting at 2:00 p.m., ET, going off of hole No. 10.

Uranga starts Duke’s individual play at Terra Lago, teeing off 11:50 a.m., ET. Love, Siebers and Zheng follow in 10-minute intervals.

The Blue Devils are coming off top-five finishes in all five of their fall events, highlighted by a victory at the Rod Myers Invitational, Duke’s home tournament. Dating back to the fall, Duke has finished under-par in six consecutive team rounds and in eight of its last nine. The Blue Devils are paced individually by Sample, a junior, who holds a scoring average of 71.27 and has signed for 10 under-par rounds, including four rounds in the 60’s.
