Barcos, Robison Tie for Third for Utah Golf at Invitational at the Ford

RICHMOND HILLS, Ga. Javier Barcos and Brandon Robison finished tied for third and the University of Utah men’s golf team concluded the inaugural Invitational at the Ford in fifth place on Tuesday at the Ford Field and River Club in Richmond Hill, Ga.

“We played great the opening 12 holes,” said coach Garrett Clegg, “but we didn’t do a good job finishing off the round. Javi was back to playing great golf and our team is really close to putting everything together. Brandon also had a fantastic event and hopefully it will help him gain some confidence as we continue our postseason push. This is a great group and I expect us to have a breakout finish shortly!”

Barcos was on his game during the final round, matching his second-lowest score of the season. The senior from Spain started the day 2-under on the front nine, collecting two birdies to go with seven pars and he started the back nine with two more red scores on the 10th and 11th. Barcos would pick up one more birdie on the 16th to enter the clubhouse at 4-under for the day and 7-under for the tournament. This goes down as his second top five finish of the season and sixth of his career.

Robison, who was competing as an individual, capped off 54 fantastic holes with a 1-under 71 that included a 2-under 34 on the back nine. Robison put up four birdies on Tuesday and his final round score combined with back-to-back 69’s over the first two rounds to put the sophomore even with his teammate at 7-under.

Sergio Jimenez recorded three front nine birdies and was 1-under before making the turn. The freshman completed the tournament with his third consecutive 72, putting him at even par and earning him a share of 20th. Braxton Watts was 2-under on the front nine before finishing the day 1-over and 2-over overall and tied for 30th with a group that included teammate Davis Johnson, who was also playing as an individual. Gabriel Palacios concluded the tournament at 4-over and sharing 38th, while Go Nakatsukasa was deadlocked with two other golfers in 48th.
