Men's Golf Set to Compete in Colleton River Collegiate


BLUFFTON, S.C. Rutgers men’s golf travels to South Carolina this weekend to play in the 12th Annual Colleton River Collegiate Charity Golf Tournament hosted by Michigan State University.

The two-day event starting Monday March 4th will feature 14 teams including 10 ranked in the top 100. They include host Michigan State, Cincinnati, Georgia Southern, Howard, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, Missouri, Penn State, and Tennessee – Chattanooga.

The event takes place at the Colleton River Club on the Nicklaus Course. The course plays at a par 72 and spans 7,042 yards. The Scarlet Knights have competed in this event all 12 years its occurred, and had their most success just last year.

Rhett Sellers led Rutgers to a fourth-place finish thanks to a sixth-place tie of his own. He shot 65 in the first round, good for the fourth-best round in program history. As a team, they shot 11-under in round one, also the fourth-best team round of 18. Over the course of the event, Rutgers shot 839 (-25), the third-best total strokes for a 54-hole event and the best 54-hole vs. par in school history.

Rutgers placed seventh at the Invitational at the Ford last week. Xavier Marcoux shot 210 (-6) for the event. He tied for eighth-place, his third straight top-ten finish and second straight to start the spring.

The Scarlet Knights will head to Georgia to host the Johnnie-O at Sea Island on Monday March 11th.
