CHULA VISTA, Calif. – No. 4 Washington looks to finish on the podium at the RE Lamkin Invitational at the San Diego Country Club after back-to-back fourth-place tournament finishes, both in which a Husky has ended runner-up individually.

“We always look forward to playing at San Diego CC and this tournament,” head coach Alan Murray said. “The greens at this golf course are at a championship level and it really forces you to be so aware when approaching the green and having great speed and touch.

Driving the ball can be overlooked here but you really want to be playing from the fairway to give yourself added control over your approach shots.”

This tournament is a two-day event coming just after Peter Hruby notched runner-up and Washington took fourth at The Prestige at PGA West’s Norman Course. UW shot a 15-under 837 over three days of play and proved to be enough to push the Huskies up to the fourth spot in the rankings nationally.

“Our guys have had a chance to get a little recovery time in after a very busy stretch for us in the early part of this spring season,” Murray said. “We are ready to go again and can’t wait for the tournament to get started.”

No. 4 Washington will be the highest ranked team on the course but will have their work cut out for them, as No. 13 Georgia Tech, No. 19 New Mexico and No. 29 LSU will also be vying for the title in Southern California.

Founded in 1897, the San Diego Country Club lies a mere 15 miles away from Mexico and is a 7,033-yard par 72. The club has held numerous tournaments such as the San Diego Open (PGA Tour), U.S. Women’s Amateur and the U.S Women’s Open.

Paired up with LSU, San Diego and San Diego State, the Huskies will tee off at 8 a.m. PT in a shotgun start Monday and will play 36 continuous holes.

Washington’s lineup for the RE Lamkin Invitational is as follows:

  1. Taehoon Song
  2. Petr Hruby
  3. Finn Koelle
  4. Chuan-Tai Lin
  5. Bo Peng

Individual – Drew Warford
Individual – Justin Hopkins

“We have a number of guys that have been playing well and we look to continue that good form,” Murray said. “Having Drew and Justin be able to compete also allows another competitive tournament for them which is always a big part of our guy’s…
