FAIRFAX, Calif. – Camille Boyd led four Washington golfers who finished day one at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational even or under par as the Huskies completed the first two rounds in second place, with a 10-under total of 566.

Boyd, who won this same event two seasons ago, carded 4-under 68s in each of her first two rounds. At 8-under overall, she heads into the Tuesday’s third and final round in second place, one stroke off the lead.

Freshman Vivian Lu finished the day 2-under and tied for ninth, after scores of 73 and 69. Jamie Hsieh and Stefanie Deng completed Monday’s 36 holes even for the tournament, tying them both for 16th place overall.

The Huskies will enter Tuesday’s final round three shots back of first-place Stanford, and five strokes ahead of third-place USC.

“We put two solid rounds together today,” said UW head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. “In the first round, we put ourselves in a good position to make a move in the afternoon and we did.

“We had a lot of solid ball striking which led to making a lot of pars and taking advantage of the par 5’s,” Mulflur added. “We’ve got some cleaning up to do in some other areas, but it’s always a good day when you’re in contention in the final round.”

In the early stages of the opening round, the Huskies moved to the top of the leaderboard, led by Boyd and Lu, who each spent time with a share of the lead. At the end of the first round, the Huskies were in a tie for second place with a total of 2-under 286, five strokes back of first-round leader USC.

Boyd carded an opening-round score of 4-under 68, tying her for third place through 18 holes, while Hsieh was two shots back (2-under 70), and tied for sixth after the opening 18.

The second round got off to an even stronger start, boosted by an eagle from Lu on No. 9, her first hole of the second round. Mostly playing the back nine first, the Huskies’ top-four players combined for 10 birdies and the eagle over their first half of the second round and bounced back and forth atop the team leaderboard along with USC and Stanford.

Halfway through the second round, Boyd was 2-under for the round and 6-under overall, while Deng also caught fire, notching three birdies over her first nine of the second round. Lu was 4-under over her opening nine of the round two.

After a double and a bogey on her second nine, Deng came back to birdie…
