FAIRFAX, Calif. – Washington’s Camille Boyd finished in a tie for first place and the UW women’s golf team finished second after the third and final round of the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational was canceled due to poor weather Tuesday. The final results reverted to the scores at the end of play Monday, when two full rounds were completed.
Boyd, a senior from Yorba Linda, Calif., who had carded back-to-back 68s to complete Monday’s 36 holes at 8-under par, shared medalist honors with Oregon State’s Kyra Ly (67-69). Washington was 10-under as a team, with a total of 566. Stanford won the tournament by three strokes (563).
The win was the second of Boyd’s career, as she also won the Juli Inkster in 2022, when a 14-under total of 202.
“I’m super proud of the effort,” said UW head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. “Today was a brutal day and they handled it about as well as they could. We were still a couple back. Stanford played really, really well, but our team just battled it out.
“They were gritty and tough and super excited to play the way we played,” Mulflur continued. “They are just starting to come together, starting to gel, and starting to figure out how good they are.”
The 14 teams were well into the back nine of their third round when play was suspended due to rain and standing water, meaning that the tournament was just a few holes from completion.
Poor, wet conditions had led to higher scores across the board on Tuesday. However, the Huskies were able to maintain their spot on the team leaderboard, spending essentially the entire day at the No. 2 spot, up until play was called off for good, wiping out all of Tuesday’s results.
Freshman Vivian Lu finished in a tie for eighth place, the lowest finish of her season, with a 2-under 142, while both Jamie Hsieh and Stefanie Deng tied for 15th place, at even par through two rounds.
Next for the Huskies is the Hawai’i Invitational, March 17-19, on the island of Kauai.
