SAN FRANCISCO – After collecting the sixth top five finish of his Utah career at the Invitational at the Ford on Feb. 26-27, Utah golfer Javier Barcos was named Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Week on Tuesday, the first such award of his collegiate career.
Barcos began his time in Georgia by carding a 2-under 70 in round one, then put together a second round that included a run of eight straight pars and two birdies to finish the tournament’s first day at 3-under. During the competition’s final 18 holes, Utah’s Spanish senior racked up five birdies on his way to a 4-under 68, matching his best 18 holes score of the season thus far. That round enabled him to climb from 10th into a tie for third, his highest finish of the 2023-24 campaign.
Barcos is the first Ute to ever earn Pac-12 Golfer of the Week honors. The last Utah golfer to earn a conference award such as this was Dustin Pimm, who was named Mountain West Golfer of the Month in 2005.
Barcos will try and repeat his excellent performance in Georgia when the Utes travel to Bandon, Ore., the site of the Bandon Dunes Championship, which will be held from Sunday through Tuesday.
