GreatLIFE Golf acquired two clubs at the beginning of 2024, Sapona Golf & Swim Club in Lexington, North Carolina, and Country Club of Mount Dora in Mount Dora, Florida. They are the company’s first acquisitions since the Brown Golf/GreatLIFE merger and bring their portfolio to 55 golf courses across nine states.
“The merger between Brown Golf and GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness happened in September of 2022,” said John Brown, CEO of GreatLIFE Golf. “Since that point we’ve been looking diligently for appealing investment opportunities. Sapona Golf & Swim Club and Country Club of Mount Dora were both unique, creative opportunities that took time to put together, but we couldn’t be happier with our new ownership.”
Sapona Golf & Swim Club was purchased from the members of the club on January 16 and will operate as a semi-private facility. GreatLIFE has scheduled major improvements to the championship style course, which features a double green on holes 9 and 18. The club has already begun the process of removing more than 200 trees to open expansive views from the clubhouse’s back patio. The club will also feature a brand-new indoor golf entertainment space using Trackman technology for both club members as well as the public.
Country Club of Mount Dora was purchased from a private owner on February 28 and will also function as a semi-private facility. The first improvement planned for the course is a new irrigation pump station and pump house. Additionally, the property will go through a complete upgrade and beautification of the golf course.
“This was a unique purchase in which we worked with the community to complete this acquisition,” Brown said. “We are excited to develop a unique community feel with the 800+ homes around the Country Club of Mount Dora and the connecting golf cart community of Lakes of Mount Dora, which features 1300+ homes.”
