Spartans in 7th Through Competitive First Round of Clemson Invitational


SUNSET, S.C. – Michigan State Women’s Golf sits in seventh place out of a competitive field of 16 through the first round of the Clemson Invitational on Friday.
 
The Spartans are a collective two shots over par (+2, 290), five strokes behind second place and 10 behind the leaders Vanderbilt (-8, 280). Reigning Big Ten Golfer of the Week Katie Lu leads the way for the Spartans, shooting a 71 (-1) which is good for tied for 14th individually.
 
Senior Leila Raines and junior Shannon Kennedy both finished even with par (72) through the first 18 holes on the 6,441-yard Reserve at Lake Keowee, tied for 20th individually.
 
Two rounds are still to be played in which plenty of ground can be made up quickly, with the Spartans teeing off for the next round of 18 holes Saturday morning ahead of the finale Sunday.
