THIS WEEK
After inclement weather cancelled the last tournament on their schedule, the University of Utah men’s golf team is preparing to compete in two tournaments in one week, starting with The Duck Invite, which will take place on Monday and Tuesday at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore., followed by The Goodwin, a three-day tournament set to be held from Thursday through Saturday at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.

The Utes’ last trip to Eugene was a successful one in the 2022, when they earned a second-place finish by shooting 2-under. Four Utah golfers posted top 10 finishes, led by Blake Tomlinson, who took fourth. Javier Barcos also put up a top 10 finish, carding a 1-over 214 to tie for sixth after a performance that included a 6-under 65 in round two. Braxton Watts climbed into the top 10 as well, securing a share of ninth.

A season ago, coach Garrett Clegg took his squad to The Goodwin for the first time since 2018 and Barcos was the top finisher for Utah. The senior from Spain carded three straight 72’s and finished with 13 consecutive pars that landed him in a tie for 60th.

COACHES THOUGHTS: Head Coach Garrett Clegg
“These are two great tournaments that we will be competing in on world class championship golf courses,” said Clegg. “Eugene Country Club and Harding Park present a true test of golf. Our group of players know how to compete and I’m excited to see what they bring this week. We anticipate a lot of rain and bad weather both in Oregon and California and we need to be a group that can handle poor conditions.  It’s going to be a great week of golf, and hopefully we bring our best!”

THE FIELD
A total of 14 teams will be vying for the tournament title in Eugene and that list consists of No. 21 Illinois, No. 24 Oregon Boise State, Cal Poly, Colorado State, Fresno State, Grand Canyon,…
