NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s golfer Ava Merrill earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors following a 1-under weekend to help the Commodores win the Clemson Invitational.
Merrill posted a pair of rounds under par, firing a 70 in each of the first two rounds. Her 1-under 215 placed the rookie in a tie for 13th on the weekend. It marked her third top-15 finish on the season.
The 1-under tally gave Merrill her third tournament below par and a fifth at par or better on the year. She has now recorded 12 rounds at or under par this season.
The honor marks the second time this spring Merrill has garnered SEC Freshman of the Week recognition. She previously earned the honor following her sixth-place finish at the FAU Paradise Invitational in February.
