Melgrati Posts Another Top-10 Finish As Cats Conclude Week in Phoenix

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Difficult windy conditions welcomed No. 14 Arizona Women’s Golf during Saturday afternoon’s finale of the PING/ASU Invitational as the Wildcats shot 2-over par as a team in the third round to finish the tournament in seventh place at even par. Arizona opened its final round by sinking 14 birdies as a team through the first 13 holes before carding only a pair in the blustery winds during the final five holes at Papago Golf Course. Junior Carolina Melgrati, who posted the Cats’ lowest score on Friday, shot 71 on Saturday to cap the week as her team’s lowest scorer at 3-under and tied for ninth.

“The course was really playing tough for us in the afternoon when the wind really picked up and weren’t able to overcome it like we would have hoped,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “The ending to our final round doesn’t take away from a really good week of golf for our young ladies as we continue build on our strong play this season. We have one more tournament in Napa before Pac-12 Championships, and I feel very good about where we are as a team.”

Melgrati earned her third consecutive top-10 finish this week, following her sixth-place finish at the Pac-12 Preview and a top-5 showing at the Gators Invitational. Sophomore Julia Misemer carded the Wildcats’ lowest round on Saturday with a 2-under par round of 70 to end her week in a tie for 15th place at 2-under.

Arizona will make its annual trip to Napa, California for the Silverado Showdown, beginning on Monday, April 8. The regular season finale will lead into the Pac-12 Championships that are scheduled to begin on Sunday, April 21 at Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman, Washington.
