Braxton Watts Takes Home Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Week Award

SAN FRANCISCO – Just a few days after closing out the first win of his collegiate career and posting his best 54-hole score as a Ute, Braxton Watts was named the Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Week on Tuesday.

Watts topped a field of 168 golfers at The Goodwin by shooting a 5-over 205, which is among the top 20 54-hole marks in Utah history, as well as the team’s best in 2023-24.

The junior from Utah started his time in San Francisco with a first round 71, but he found his game a day later to jump from 28th to 2nd on the leaderboard. Watts’ started the second round with a pair of early bogeys, but spent the rest of his day rattling off seven birdies on his way to a 4-under 66, the lowest 18-hole score of his Utah career. During the final round, Watts again shook off a difficult start and shot 4-under on the back nine. A stretch of three straight birdies on holes No. 15 – 17 propelled him into the lead and with a par on the 18th, Watts clinched the tournament championship. His work also helped the Utes place second in an event with 31 teams, beating four ranked squads in the process.

Watts is the second Ute to be chosen as the Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Week in 2023-24. His honor comes less than a month after Javier Barcos collected the program’s first-ever men’s golfer of the week award since joining the Pac-12.
