Filler Tees Off Augusta National Women’s Amateur Wednesday


AUGUSTA, Ga. – Florida women’s golfer and the No. 3 ranked player in the country, Maisie Filler tees off her second appearance in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) on Wednesday at 8 a.m.

Filler will tee off round two on Thursday at 10:07 a.m. The first 36 holes will be contested over two days on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club on Wednesday and Thursday. The entire field will then play Augusta National for an official practice round Friday, April 5. The final round will take place at Augusta National on Saturday, April 6 and feature the top 30 players and ties. 

The first and second rounds of the ANWA will be broadcast live on Golf Channel (1:30-3:30 p.m. ET) from Champions Retreat Golf Club. NBC Sports will produce and broadcast three hours (Noon-3 p.m. ET) of live final-round coverage of the event at Augusta National. Additionally, Golf Channel’s “Live From the Masters” will commence on Friday, April 5 at Augusta National to provide coverage of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals and the Masters Tournament.

 

The prestigious event has a Gator golf connection as UF alum and current Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley announced the commencement of the ANWA in 2019. Creating the only event played by women on the prestigious course and home of The Masters. The event features the top-72 amateurs and was established to inspire greater interest and participation in the women’s game by creating a new, exciting and rewarding pathway for these players to fulfill their dreams.

 
Filler is the fifth Gator to compete in the event continuing the Gators streak of having a representative every year of the tournament, including the inaugural event with three.
 
Currently a member of the ANNIKA Award Spring Watch List, she earned No. 1 ranked player in the NCAA Rankings, and has continued to dominate her senior season. Filler started the spring with her third-consecutive medalist honors in a stroke play event at the Moon Golf Invitational, a T3 finish in the Gators Invitational and a 3-0 match play record against three ranked teams. Filler has also claimed three SEC Golfer of the Week awards…
