Men’s Golf Plays in Hoosier Collegiate Invitational this Weekend


East Lansing, Mich. – Coming off a trio of top-five finishes, Michigan State’s men’s golf team begins play in the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, April 6.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament tees off on Saturday morning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start and 36 holes of continuous play on the par-71, 7,355-yard Pfau Course at Indiana University. The third, and final, round tees off on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

Michigan State enters the weekend with a string of top-five finishes over the team’s last three tournaments since the start of March. MSU finished in fourth place among 11 teams at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational in Napa, Calif. on March 26, with junior Ashton McCulloch tying for fifth place at 4-under par 212. The Spartans also finished in third place at the Johnnie-O at Sea Island (21-under par 843) and tied for fifth place among 14 teams at the Colleton River Collegiate (19-under par 845).

McCulloch has led the Spartans throughout the year and carries a 70.91 scoring average over 23 rounds, including two top-five finishes and five among the top-20. His 70.91 scoring average currently ranks as the best single-season mark in program history. Graduate student Drew Hackett is second on the team with a 71.90 scoring average and has four top-20 finishes, including a tie for sixth place at the Johnnie-O at Sea Island at 7-under par 209. Senior August Meekhof is third on the team with a 72.46 average and classmate Bradley Smithson
