Mackova Wins at Texas Showdown; Terps Finish Second in Match Play


DALLAS, TX — Senior Patricie Mackova picked up her third collegiate individual win and helped lead Maryland to a top-two finish in match play at the Texas Showdown at the Dallas Athletic Club Tuesday. 

The Terrapins played 36 holes of stroke play Monday. They finished in second of eight teams at nine strokes under par overall with a score of 567 (283-284). They clinched the No. 2 seed in Tuesday’s match play event. 

STROKE PLAY

  • Mackova shot a 69 in the first round, then a 66 in the second round to finish with a score of 135 (-9). Her 66 in the second round tied her season low.
  • Sophomore Nicha Kanpai tied for fifth with a score of 140 (70-70), which was -4. It was her fourth top-10 finish this year.
  • Fifth-year Maria Vittoria Corbi earned a score of 145 (72-73) to tie for 16th and pick up her third top 20 finish of the year.
  • Fifth-year Virginia Bossu shot a 149 (72-77) and tied for 32nd.
  • Junior Panassaya Somchit earned a score of 152 (77-75).

MATCH PLAY

  • The Terrapins were the No. 2 seed in the match play event.
  • They beat third-seeded UCF, 4-1, in the semifinals.
  • Maryland fell to tournament-host SMU, 4-0-1, in the finals.

Maryland will compete in the Big Ten Championships April 19-21 at Bulle Rock Golf Club in Havre de Grace, Md.
