Five Things to Know: Hawkeye Invitational


MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men’s golf is back in the Midwest and headed to Iowa City, Iowa to compete in the Hawkeye Invitational hosted by Iowa at the Finkbine Golf Course. The Badgers will play a total of 54 holes between Saturday, April 13, and Sunday, April 14. 

Here are five things to know before the Badgers tee off:

1. Last Time Out: The Badgers last competed in the Schenkel Invitational where the team finished tied for sixth place at 14-under par. The Badgers completed the tournament with a 850 (288-275-287), led by Coalter Smith who tied for 14th place at five-under par. Individual competitor, Daniel Aas, finished tied for second place among the 84 golfers at the invitational at 10-under par. Reigning National Champion Florida earned top honors among the 14-team field at 27-under par, while South Carolina’s Nathan Franks paced the individuals at 13-under par. Aas later received the Big Ten Golfer of the Week title following his impressive performance at the invitational. 

2. The Course: Home to the University of Iowa Men’s and Women’s collegiate golf teams, the Finkbine Golf Course is a par-72, 7,002-yard course created by Robert Bruce Harris. Finkbine was built along the rolling hills and elevation changes of Iowa City and features Bentgrass greens, tree-lined fairways and plenty of challenging sand traps. The course was named after W.O. Finkbine, who donated the land to the University of Iowa.

3. The Tournament: The tournament will be played on Saturday, April 13, and Sunday, April 14, with 36 holes set for Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday. Both days will begin at 8:15 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. 

4. The Field: The invitational will feature Central Arkansas, Creighton, Drake, Illinois State, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri State, Murray State, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, TCU, UMKC, Wichita State and Wisconsin. Representing the Badgers is Cameron Huss, Jacob Beckman, Coalter Smith, Blake Wisdom and Daniel Aas. Spencer Turtz will join Wisconsin as an individual competitor. Huss is currently ranked 94th in the Clippd top 100
