Women’s Golf Closes Out Regular Season at Lady Buckeye Invitational


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s women’s golf team plays its final tournament before the postseason starts this weekend, competing in the Lady Buckeye Invitational at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament tees off on Saturday, April 13 on the par-72, 6,319-yard course on the Ohio State campus. The final round will be held on Sunday, April 14. Both days start with 8:30 a.m. shotgun starts. Each of the 12 teams will have six players competing and the lowest four scores count toward the team total.

THE LADY BUCKEYE INVITATIONAL FIELD

In addition to No. 31 Michigan State, the 12-team field includes Illinois (No. 62), Indiana (No. 75), Iowa, Kent State (No. 66), Minnesota (No. 57), host Ohio State (No. 38), Nebraska (No. 69), Penn State, Purdue (No. 32), Rutgers and Wisconsin (No. 70).

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

The Lady Buckeye Invitational will be the fifth event of the spring season for the Spartans, who have two top-5 finishes and four top-10 finishes.

 

Michigan State is coming off a fifth-place finish among 16 teams at the Clemson Invitational, with junior Katie Lu leading the way, tying for 10th place at 2-under par 214. The Spartans won the Briar’s Creek Invitational on March 12, firing a 4-under par 860 as a team, with Lu and classmate Brooke Biermann sharing medalist honors at 5-under par 211.

 

Lu has enjoyed a strong season this year, leading the team in scoring average (71.00), with two individual wins and eight top-20 finishes in nine events. Biermann is second on the team with a 72.58 scoring average and five top-20 finishes, while senior Leila Raines carries a 73.00 average in 24 rounds with three top-20 showings.

 

The lineup this weekend also includes sophomore Paula Balanzategui, who carries a 74.62 scoring average, has posted one top-10 finish this year, Shannon Kennedy (75.50…
