Arizona Takes on All Comers at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – No. 9 Arizona Men’s Golf returns to action two days after competing in the Thunderbird Collegiate in Phoenix to take on the 77th annual Western Intercollegiate, presented by Titleist. The Wildcats are part of the field taking on Pasatiempo Golf Club for the eighth time in the last 10 seasons with Golf Channel once again providing coverage of the event via the Peacock app. The event’s format differs from college golf’s usual “five count four” format with each team playing lineups of six golfers with the five lowest scores counted.

“The Western Intercollegiate continues to be one of the marquee events in college golf, and we are excited for a first-class golf environment that challenges all teams,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “We’ve got a lot of experience at Pasatiempo that we have grown from, and I believe our team is looking forward to showing its takeaways from the Thunderbird Collegiate as well. This is one of the best weeks of the year for preparation for postseason golf, and this group of guys is focused on the opportunities this tournament provides us.”

Arizona’s six-man lineup for the event features Tiger Christensen, Filip Jakubcik, Zach Pollo, Sam Sommerhauser, Johnny Walker and Tianyi Xiong, which accounts for five career starts at Pasatiempo Golf Club. Sommerhauser was Arizona’s lowest scorer in last year’s Western Intercollegiate, carding a 4-over par week for a 22nd place finish.

The ninth-ranked Wildcats are part of a field that also includes No. 8 Washington, No. 17 Texas, No. 21 California and No. 25 Oregon as well as defending tournament champion Pepperdine. Arizona will go off the first hole at 10:34 a.m. (MST) on Monday alongside the Stanford Cardinal.

The Golf Channel broadcast on Peacock will begin at 4 p.m. (MST) with live coverage of the final holes of the round in addition to replays from earlier in the day.
