Illini Trio Closes Play at Highland Meadows Intercollegiate


SYLVANIA, Ohio – Three Fighting Illini golfers closed out play as individual competitors at the Highland Meadow Intercollegiate on Tuesday, with Piercen Hunt and Jerry Ji tying for fourth place and Timmy Crawford moving up into a tie for 12th in the 75-player field at Highland Meadows Golf Club.

Crawford posted the best Round 3 score among the Illini contingent, carding a closing 68 (-3) to climb nine spots up the individual leaderboard. He opened with a 74 in Monday’s first round and got back on track with a Round 2 tally of 69 (-2) to sit in a tie for 21st with 18 holes to play. Tuesday’s finale moved him to 2-under for the event with a three-round tally of 211.

Ji closed with an even-par 71 to remain in a tie for fourth place with a 36-hole tally of 207 (-6) after shooting rounds of 67 (-4) and 69 (-2) on Monday. Hunt, who opened the day in a tie for second place at 7-under following a 68 (-3) and 67 (-4) in Rounds 1 and 2, respectively, wrapped up his week with a 72 (+1) on Tuesday to slide down two spots into a tie with Ji.

The Fighting Illini, ranked 18th in the NCAA Division I team rankings and 17th in the latest GCAA Coaches Poll, will close out the regular season with the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate, this Saturday and Sunday.
