Women’s Golf Set For B1G Championships in Maryland This Weekend

HAVRE DE GRACE, Mary. – The Penn State women’s golf travels to the Big Ten Championships this weekend at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

This is a site change from the last two B1G Championships that were held at Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Nittany Lions finished T-12th last year led by then-senior classmates Isha Dhruva ’23 and Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) finishing tied for 30th and tied for 34th, respectively.

The format of the championship is 54 holes and is scored by a play six count four, so each team will have six players and the top four scores from each round will count toward the team total. Each round will feature split tees with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.

All 14 Big Ten universities will be represented this week with Illinois looking to retain its 2023 Championship as the Fighting Illini finished 13-over and three strokes clear of second place Northwestern last year.

THE COURSE

• Named for the first thoroughbred racehorse brought to North America in the early 18th century, Bulle Rock has consistently been ranked as Maryland’s No. 1 public golf course since opening in 1998.
• The acclaimed Pete Dye design winds through 235 acres near the intersection of the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay.
• Bulle Rock hosted five consecutive LPGA Championships (now known as the Women’s PGA Championship) from 2005-09, including Annika Sorenstam’s third consecutive victory in 2005 by three strokes over 15-year-old amateur Michelle Wie.

THE TEAM

• The Nittany Lions competing this weekend remain consistent from events earlier this spring with graduate students Delavallade and Carlota Garcia (Salamanca, Spain) joining juniors Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) and Michelle Cox (Allentown, Pa.). Senior Victoria Tip-Aucha (Vienna, Va.) slots back into the lineup after missing last week and sophomore Myranda Quinton (Burlington, Ontario) makes her second-consecutive start and third of the season.
• Cox paces the team with a 73.08 stroke average and three top-10 finishes including individual medalist honors at the Columbia Classic in February.
• Nienhaus is second with a 73.85 stroke average and one top-10 finish while Delavallade has a 74.55 stroke…
