Filip Jakubcik Named Pac-12 Golfer of the Week

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona sophomore golfer Filip Jakubcik has been selected as the Pac-12 Conference’s Golfer of the Week after winning the Western Intercollegiate for his first college victory. Jakubcik defeated a field of 95 other players at the historic Pasatiempo Golf Club, shooting a career low of 206 over 54 holes.

The weekly conference honor is the first of Jakubcik’s career, and it marks the third time an Arizona Wildcat has been named Golfer of the Week this season following Tiger Christensen and Yannick Malik.

Jakubcik won after carding rounds of 68, 68 and 70 at the Western Intercollegiate. The sophomore entered the final round with a one-shot lead and his back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes proved to be difference in the win.

The Czech Republic native became the first Wildcat to win the event in the program’s eight trips to Santa Cruz, California. The win was his second career podium finish after finishing third at the Sahalee Players Championship in the fall.

Jakubcik and the rest of Arizona Men’s Golf will return to competition on Friday, April 26 at the Pac-12 Championships at Desert Forest Golf Club in Carefree, Arizona.
